From preschool to post-graduate education, Irvine gets top marks.

Schools and Education

Irvine's public schools are among the highest ranking in the nation. Irvine is also home to thriving college and university communities.

Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) has six of Orange County's top elementary schools, five top 10 middle schools, and four of the top 10 high schools (California Department of Education, 2007). All four of the district's high schools rank among the top 5% in the nation for college preparation (Newsweek, 2006), and more than 90% of their graduates attend college (City of Irvine, 2008).

Initially built around the University of California at Irvine (UCI) - now one of the highest ranking state Universities in the nation - the city of Irvine has created an environment that enables high academic achievement from pre-K through doctoral programs.

Putting education first has yielded a culture of industriousness and innovation, helping to make Irvine the most prosperous city in Orange County.
